YRES Sparks Curiosity Through LEGO STEAM Activities at Regina Mundi Catholic School

York Region Educational Services attended the Fun Fair at Regina Mundi Catholic School with team members Devin, Reshana, and Alex. Together, they introduced children to hands-on LEGO Robotics and Science activities while creating a welcoming space for creativity, collaboration, and discovery.

Devin enjoyed seeing how interested children became in the activities. One child spent nearly an hour exploring the LEGO Robotics set, while their grandparent expressed interest in learning more about YRES’ RoboNova program. Devin described the fair as having “a lively and welcoming atmosphere” and shared that the LEGO STEAM activities made learning feel creative, hands-on, and exciting.

Reshana’s highlight was leading a LEGO Science experiment with a child who became deeply engaged in the physics behind the activity. The experience showed her how LEGO programs can spark children’s curiosity and introduce them to subjects they may become passionate about in the future. She shared that the children’s “excitement and curiosity” demonstrated the positive impact YRES is having on youth.

Alex facilitated the LEGO Robotics station, where children built creatures and tested them using colour sensors and simple coding. Alex enjoyed seeing their excitement and appreciated working with staff and volunteers to create a fun, welcoming learning environment.

Overall, the Fun Fair at Regina Mundi Catholic School gave YRES a meaningful opportunity to inspire children through STEAM education and connect families with its programs. The children’s creativity, persistence, and enthusiasm showed how hands-on activities can turn learning into an exciting and memorable experience.
