TRES Inspires Creativity at a LEGO Fun Fair

Toronto Region Educational Services attended St. Monica’s Fun Fair with team members Nathan, Kulsoom, Jessica, and Emily. Together, they introduced children to LEGO Robotics, Art, and Science activities while working through unexpected challenges to create a fun and engaging experience for families.

Nathan enjoyed exploring the fair’s unique exhibitors and even captured a marketing photo with the Jollibee mascot. He was especially impressed by how quickly children learned to use the LEGO SPIKE kit and the skills they demonstrated while completing the activities.

Kulsoom highlighted the excitement children showed at each LEGO station. She enjoyed teaching them about LEGO Science and Art and seeing the creative projects they developed. Reflecting on the experience, she shared that “my team was amazing” and that the children’s enthusiasm made all the preparation and setup feel worthwhile.

For Jessica, a memorable moment was watching a group of older children work together to build a three-dimensional dinosaur during the LEGO Art challenge. She enjoyed seeing them experiment with shapes, share ideas, and collaborate on their creation. Jessica initially did not expect to enjoy working at the event as much as she did, but said the team’s enthusiasm and willingness to support one another helped make it a success.

Emily highlighted the team’s adaptability and dedication, particularly when they faced limited setup materials and technical issues. Nathan successfully managed the main activity, Kulsoom used her personal phone to keep the prize-wheel game running after the laptop battery died, and Jessica added energy to the booth by blowing bubbles for the children. Emily also appreciated the school staff, who were welcoming and supportive throughout the event. She described representing TRES as “an incredibly rewarding and fun experience”, adding that the event demonstrated the importance of being creative and adaptable as a team.

Overall, the LEGO Fun Fair was a wonderful opportunity for TRES to connect with the community and introduce children to hands-on learning. The children’s creativity and enthusiasm, combined with the team’s strong collaboration, helped create a memorable experience and showed how much impact TRES programs can have when staff work together.
